Optimization of LSE and LMMSE Channel Estimation Algorithms based on CIR Samples and Channel Taps

چکیده

For spectrally efficient transmission over time-varying channels, the use of Adaptive Coding and Modulation (AMC) in wireless OFDM systems requires the estimation of radio channel at the receiver. This paper focuses on the use of time domain channel statistics, mainly concentrating on two schemes: Linear Minimum Mean Square Estimation (LMMSE) and Least Square Estimation (LSE) and their variants. LMMSE performs better than LSE but at the cost of computational complexity. The performance of LSE can be improved by increasing CIR samples and channel taps. To avoid the matrix inversion lemma, the channel matrix can be downsampled or regularized. Theoretical analysis and computer simulations are used for performance and complexity comparisons.

Recursive Least Square ( RLS ) Based Channel Estimation for MIMO - OFDM System

Channel State information can be determined by adaptive filtering algorithms for wireless channels. For slow fading channels, simplified channel estimators can be exploited such as Least Square Error (LSE) and Linear Minimum Mean Square Error (LMMSE). But for fast fading channels, the matrix inversion required in case of LMMSE has to be taken recursively which increase the complexity. Under suc...

Performance and Complexity Comparison of Channel Estimation Algorithms for OFDM System

To mitigate the multipath delay effect of the received signal, the information of the time-varying channel is required at the receiver to determine the equalizer co-efficients. In this paper two basic algorithms, known as Linear Minimum Mean Square (LMMSE) and Least Square Error (LSE), are discussed which make use of the channel statistics in time domain. To reduce the complexity, different var...

Empirical Mode Decomposition based Adaptive Filtering for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Channel Estimation

This paper presents an empirical mode decomposition (EMD) based adaptive filter (AF) for channel estimation in OFDM system.  In this method, length of channel impulse response (CIR) is first approximated using Akaike information criterion (AIC). Then, CIR is estimated using adaptive filter with EMD decomposed IMF of the received OFDM symbol. The correlation and kurtosis measures are used to sel...

An Investigation into Time-Domain Approach for OFDM Channel Estimation

A time-domain based channel estimation for OFDM system with pilot-data multiplexed scheme is investigated. As an approximation to linear minimum mean square estimator (LMMSE), a time-domain based channel estimation is proposed where intra-symbol time-averaging and most significant channel taps selection are applied. The relation and differences of the proposed method to DFT-based LMMSE methods ...
